An evaporative air cooler, also known as a swamp cooler or desert cooler, is a machine used to cool the air in a room or space. It works by evaporating water to lower the temperature and increase humidity in the air. Unlike traditional air conditioners that use refrigeration to cool the air, evaporative coolers use the natural process of evaporation.
The basic mechanism of an evaporative air cooler involves drawing in warm air from the surroundings and passing it through a series of moistened pads or filters. The pads are kept wet by a water pump or by gravity-fed water flow, allowing the air to pick up moisture as it passes through them. As the warm air evaporates the water, it loses heat and results in a cooler air stream.
